Ah. Thank you for sharing from your 'box of light". I too have been collecting inspiring notes like yours for years and years. And lately, as I find them, (not all on index cards, tho) I've been filling up my own 'box of light'. Your writings are in there, by the way. Thanks.
Dear Regina, what a gift this message is to so many. I have forwarded to almost everyone I know. Great choice to send it out today....it was a hard one to face. I am a part of the Cleveland PFLAG community. We have been more challenged in the last few weeks/months, trying to support an increasingly vilified population. We are trying to find ways to be optimistic, it feels SO disheartening. But, I have found it true, what Cave wrote "Grief is a positive force". I'm planning to use that force and be the best ally and support I can be for the community. Please keep writing, you are also a part of that force and support. Jude
Thank you so much for reintroducing me to Nick Cave! We just marked the one year anniversary of my 36 yr old daughterβs death, who died very unexpectedly of an undiagnosed lymphoma. She left behind a 2 and 4 yr old with the littlest being autistic. My daughter experienced a severe stroke at age 15. She was trached and totally paralyzed and miraculously found her way back about 95%. She became a much loved nurse, fell in love with a wonderful man and made a beautiful life for 20 years. What struck me the most about Nicks interview below is how he talks about a motherβs sorrow being so intense. Indeed! I so relate to his observation that this experience has deepened the meaning of his life and turned his attention outward. I will continue to explore his music and writing!
My apologies for this late reply. I'm so sorry you lost your daughter. I hope all those wonderful years and moments will continue to bless you and her children. I can't imagine your sorrow, but may her hope reach you through them. Blessings!
I had heard about this book last spring from you via Connie Schultz. At the time, life was pretty rough and it was about to get worse. I deeply appreciated Nick Caveβs insights and wrote down many of his quotes myself. It was wonderful to revisit here today in your article. Thank you so much, and I look forward to reading more for your box of light.
Regina, I fell in love with Nick Cave when I heard him interviewed Krista Tippet on On Being the end of 2023 after this book came out. So much of what he said gave voice to my experience of losing Ed(btw, thank you for your words about Ed in your new bookπ). Anyway i was so happy to see that you read this book & the sentences you highlighted. Lastly, i look toward every night before bed to reading 1 more chapter of your bookππΌ
I placed a hold on Faith, Hope, and Carnage at my library. Thanks π«ΆπΌβπ»

Thanks for the hard important work you are doing. You are speaking truth to power!
Wow. What a powerful, thoughtful, and beautiful missive. Thank you. You have given me lots to think about on a horrible historic day.

Oh, Kathy. I can't imagine the pain of your loss. May you keep finding those least-wounding steps forward.
This book sounds like a keeper! Thanks for sharing and for opening that black box filled with bright light!! ππ
It sure is. I've underlined most of it.

I think of you so often, and of Ed. He was such a powerhouse in my life. Love seeing all of you on Facebook. love you!
I've also been reading Regina's book one chapter at a time at night right before I turn out the light. It brings me some peace.
