My life has been full of so many detours, paths I never planned on taking but each one led me to you. It’s like that Rascal Flats song lyric: God blessed the broken road that led me straight to you.

We’re all faced with little detours. Big ones, too. Just when you think you’ve got everything in place, life pulls a switcheroo. The road zigs right when you zagged. Your hopes and dreams hit a dead end or you simply run out of gas and feel stranded on the highway of life while everyone else seems to be happily zipping past you.

It can feel like a disaster, that divorce or diagnosis or detour you never planned on taking in life. Or it can be the start of a wild, wonderful spiritual adventure that will end up blessing your life and the lives of others.

This poem by Mizuta Masahide, a 17th-century Japanese poet always makes my heart smile:

Barn's burnt down --
now
I can see the moon.

The moon inspires me most when it’s far from full.

Let’s do some stargazing here and see our lives from that spiritual aerial view where the Universe reveals the awe in the awful, the mystery in the mistakes, the magic in the mess.

Why should you subscribe?

You don’t have to pay to read what I write here. Ever.

I was a single mom for 18 years working full time to cover the bills. I once picked up bodies for a funeral home to pay the rent. My dad raised 11 kids on his blue-collar salary, putting on roofs and fixing furnaces. I understand how precious money can be.

If you want to support my work with a paid subscription, even $5 a month, I’m most grateful for your support and promise to be even more generous in the world.

If you don’t want to or aren’t able to support my writing financially, you are always welcome here. Either way, become a regular subscriber so you get an email every time I post something that might give you a lift. You’ll get full free access to everything I write.

And write, I do. You can find me weekly in the Cleveland Jewish News. I just came out with a new book Little Detours and Spiritual Adventures. You can learn more about me at ReginaBrett.com.
